About us

The Municipal Museum of Tavira is a territory-based museum, organized into several sites across the municipality that showcase the region’s rich cultural and historical heritage. With a multidisciplinary approach, it includes spaces such as the Palácio da Galeria, the Islamic Centre, the Cachopo Centre, the Almohad Quarter Archaeological Site, the Chapel of São Sebastião, the Chapel of Santa Ana, and the Interpretive Centre for Tavira’s Water Supply System.

The museum’s mission is to research, preserve, and share both tangible and intangible heritage, reflecting the historical presence of diverse civilizations and the productive and geocultural identity of the territory.

This museum system fosters connections between past and present, valuing historical legacy while embracing contemporary artistic expressions — encouraging an ongoing dialogue between generations, knowledge, and creative practices.
