Description
During the renovation of the Convento de Nossa Senhora da Graça to house the Pousada, an Almohad residential quarter was discovered, dating from the late 12th to early 13th century — a find of great archaeological significance.
A significant part of this Islamic-era urban area was preserved and turned into a museum space in 2006, allowing visitors to explore the layout of the former dwellings. On display are numerous everyday objects found on site, including pots, bowls, oil lamps, lids, jars, and even game pieces.
The Almohad Quarter of the Convento da Graça stands as a rare and remarkable example of Islamic urbanism in Portugal.
