Description
Restaurante Dois Irmãos, located in Faro’s historic centre, is a living culinary museum of Algarve tradition. Since its opening in 1925, this iconic restaurant has delighted guests with authentic regional flavours, inviting them into an atmosphere where history is savoured in every dish.
In its early years, the restaurant functioned as a tavern and social hub, where wine flowed from barrels and locals negotiated carob and almond prices. Signature dishes like berbigões cooked on a petroleum burner and salted horse mackerel became legendary.
In 1965, it was featured in two pages of the travel guide “Algarve, a Portrait of a Guide” by David Wright and Patrick Swift, capturing the essence of Faro before tourism was an industry in Portugal.
From 1974 onwards, the Brazuna family has preserved its legacy with warm hospitality and culinary expertise. In 2007, the Chamber of Faro awarded it the Gold Medal of Municipal Merit in recognition of its role in elevating gastronomy as cultural heritage.
Today, Dois Irmãos remains a landmark for enjoying the freshest seafood and succulent meats in Faro—set within a venue rich in nostalgia, adorned with antique tiles and artefacts, featuring both a spacious dining room and a charming interior garden.
